some catching up...

Hi all,

 I just came back from an awesome vacation in USA, I have been traveling there for 3.5 weeks and seen a lot of beautiful things.  If you want to see what I did on my travels you can go to my Travel you Tube Channel here.

I only had my phone with me so the videos are all shot and edited using my phone, that has not as many options as my computer so it was hard to edit and add music etc. to the videos, I hope you like them anyway, I tried to make them as good as possible.

While I was away I did post videos, I had schedualed them before I left and that went well, glad it did because it turns out I can not put videos live from my phone, no idea why that did not work, maybe I need to download another app, maybe it is just the phone and you tube don't like eachother.

I do know my phone does not like blogger, I can do basic things on my phone, but adding a picture to a post seems to much to ask, that's why ther was nothing happening here.

But am back now and promise to be a better blogger.

In this post I will add the things I have allready shown on my you tube craft channel while I was away, I will add links to the videos so you can see how it it made, and add a list of the product used to each project.

This art journal page was easy because the back ground ws made using left over paint from other prodcts and cleaning of stencils used in other projects, fun to see what je get if you just add the random cleaning things togehter, there is crarckle, stencila and paint it different colors, all Deco Art products btw.

TheSailor is a stamp by Chocolate Baroque / Speshink., I stamped it colred it using pencils ( Derwent Inktense) cut it out and glued it to the background. the tekst stamp is by Tim Holtz.

Another tag using the Tim Holtz paperdolls, the wings are from a decou page sheet, and the gears are a Tim Holtz Thinlets die. The bricks are made using a stencil and modeling paste, in the background there is some stenciling too. All paints and modeling paste used are Deco Art Products, see picture too see what I  used.

This is a page in my handmade envellope journal, see video here (the video explains all backgrounds too), the devil is a digital stamp by Rick St.dennis, it was colored using alcohol markeres (Twinmarkers) cut out and glued to the background using Deco Art  Matte  Medium. The word "fear"is a stamp by Stampendous/ Andy Skinner.

Hat trick

There's a new challenge over at the Rick St.dennis Sparkle and Glitter blog, challenge theme is use a hat :-).

Here is my inspiration project for the challenge using Patti 1940 Hat digi by Rick St.dennis (there is a huge collection of hatladies in the Zibbet shop, check them out here ), I mad an ATC, the background is distress ink and Deco Art Media misters in blue and white. I used a Tim Holtz stampset too in the background.  The hatlady is colored using colored pencils, and I added rhinestones on her earrings and broche.

Craftsheet review

Hi everyone, hallo allemaal

Craftsheet.nl had sent me a sample sheet to test and review so I made a video about that. I used the sheet to work on making some ATC's and Tags, and you can follow the process in the video.

ATC's

I haven't made ATC's for a long time and almost forgot how much funit is to create these little cards.

These are to be traded with the students of the OC Center Art Project, it's their first time to make ATC's so can't wait what they will send.

Theme was Gay related or something typical from the country you live in.  I made series for both and some extra

sorry for the bad pics,

this serie can't be more typical Dutch LO, it's all there windmills, tulips, wooden shoes, ofcourse on Delfts Blue tiles, and some Orange flowers to add some spark (if you never heard of Orange Madness check the linkie here), and ofcourse "Greetings from Holland" too.   (I also added the red white and blue, the colour of the Dutch Flag)

 The Gay them had me puzzled a bit, but did some thinking and came up with a Rainbow background(made using distress and masked the seperate colours using post it notes)  and used the Male/Female sign stamps together with some hearts and dots. The senti sayss "Homorechten zijn mensenrechten" translated it say Gay rights are Human rights.

experimenting on ATC's

I was kind a curious how the DecoArt Texture crackle would work in real life, I did see a nice pic of crackles on the jar, but had never tried it before.

Also wanted to play at the ATC challenge at Smudgy Antics and the Fun with ATC's challenge black/white/red , I have the texture crackle in Deep tuscany Red and neutral, which is kinda white, and cut out 4 atc's of cardboard, so I was ready to go.

But where to start LOL, I usually don't read the instructions and just start, but for this one I thought I'd do some reading first (I am so proud of myself LOL).  The package didn't say much, apply DecoArt primer/sealer let dry. Open jar  and apply the texture crackle with a palette knife and let dry.......Easy hey, so followed instructions and dried the texture crackle with my heat gun, worked great. (be careful not to boil it though)

I used the red Texture crackle first and when dry I did notice that a thin layer gave fine cracks and a thicker layer bigger cracks, I had just put on some of the texture crackle without taking care of it being even on all spaces. I wanted an aged look so it doesn't matter if things are even.  Some of the cracks made the card shine through and I didn't want that.

and cause of experimenting I thought to see what would happen if I put the neutral texture crackle over the red,cover one atc completly and a small part of another one.

I hoped that the cracks in the white would show the red layer beneath, but that didn't happen. It still looked very nice though. For the challenge I needed black/white and red, so covered the atc's with Americana acrylic lamp black paint (DA067), let dry a bit and then cleaned them using a babywipe, making sure the black would go in the cracks and leave a bit of black over the whole surface.

i used the palette knife to get some of the neutral texture crackcle of, of the ATC that was completly covered in neutral texture crackle.  and rubbed some sizzling red So Soft Fineglitter paint (DSSG03) over the atc just as I did with the black,same treatment paint let dry whipe and get it in the cracks.

Now I was ready to stamp LOL.  Not easy stamping on cracks but it's do able. I added some of the glamour dust glitter paint DGD21 Black Ice on the edges and this is the result

 

 

 

I love the cracks, but the stamping (all stamps used are from de Stempelwinkel) didn't show very well, and  I wanted to see if I could get the stamps better visible by applying DecoArt Triple Thick gloss glaze.

 

A little tip from me, make sure your stamp ink is waterproof LOL

the black was.................

 

the white wasn't, the ATC with the white skull and tree got smudged,......... disaster........O well it happens I and sometimes things can be saved.

 

I let the gloss glaze dry and stamped with black over the smudged white skull  and tree, then I added black Ice (DGD21)  glamour dust paint over the Grave Tidings senti stamp

 

here the finished atc's including the one that got smudged and stamped again, the triple thick gloss glaze made it hard to take a pic, gloss reflects light can'tbe helped.

In real life it make the stamps come out much more and gives the ATC's some depth.

I really liked how they turned out, the glitter paint looks awesome IRL, and you can see the cracks real well throught the gloss glaze. Experiment succeeded :-)

 

 

 

Smeared and Smudged Design Team Throwdown challenge 3

Challenge # 3 at Smeared and Smudged forum, rules are here

The theme was chosen by the winners of last challenge, Smeared Ink team, (big congrats to you, you did a great job).

We were to make a mini book:  Your project must be some sort of mini book. Whether it is a small accordion book , an ATC book, a domino book, a match book, a twinchie or inchie book, a tab book, etc... is up to you, but you must include at least 5 pages and your book must be smaller than 4". Use any techniques you'd like within your book.

The team is again Miranda, Rick and me

I was planning on making an ATC book, but as always my project never comes out as it was planned. LOL,  I changed plan a million times along the way but this was what I ended up with (first plan was to go for an old vintage grunchy look, but that failed big time lol).

The book is 4 x 4 inches and inside are ATC's using Rick St. Dennis digi's Alien and Creature images (they are no longer available in Rick's etsy, sorry), I also used Smeared Ink's Grumpies and the sentiments that come with the Grumpies.

I made the book from scratch, used some designer papers that I didn't like and cut that to 8 x 4 inches, folded them in half and glued the patterned side of the paper to each other, that way i got a  4 x 4 inch blanc paged book .

The pages have backgrounds made of  Dylussions and Distress Stains (first time I played with both, and have to get used to the dylussions sprays a bit) and also used paint.

The background of the ATC's are mostly Lost Coast Designs stamps, and I framed the ATC's with some glitter glue.

The covers of the book are made of a cardboard box, I removed some of the top layer and painted them.
