Valentines day frames

Almost february so time to think about Valentines day gifts to make :-)

I made a heart frame using cardboard in a mosaic kind of way and people started to bomb me with questions on how  I made it :-)  (so cool when that happens)

The best way to show is in a Video so I decided to create a simular frame with a different focal point and film the process and explain all steps in a video. Because a lot of the questions came from people in the Nethelands I decided to speak both Dutch and English in the video to talk you through all steps. Apparantly people don't mind because the comments are all very psotive :-)

Thanks everyone for looking at the video and subscribing to my channel, I have reached over 600 subscribers yesterday and that made me very happy :-)

So here som pictures, a list of supplies and a link to the video

Supply list:
Deco Art products : Triple thick Gloss Glaze Americana Acrylics in: lamp black, desert turquoise, traditional burnt sienna. and for the heart I used Scarlet and for the moon I used Moon Yellow. Deco Art Media line products: Matte medium, Matte varnish, Crackle Glaze. Metallic Lustres in: Burnished Brass, Black Shimmer Stencil for the moon frame is by Dutch Doobadoo, the one used on the heart frame is by Deco Art, a Andy Skinner stencil Stamps: the heart, the ticket and the love definition stamp are all from the Tim Holtz set Love Struck CMS 082 by Stampers Anonymous. The flourish and moon stamp are from The Blank Page Muse The crackle stamp came from a stampendous set by Andy Skinner All paper and embellishments and the glue came from a store called Action, which is a kind of dollar store type of store. next you need cardboard (old box) the back of a photoframe. A pencil and eraser. Ruler, knife Scissors, some paint brushes and a pallete knife. Heat gun is handy and baby wipes too For stamping I used my home made stamping tool (see my video on how to make that) and Archival ink by Ranger in Jet Black

Some notes to think of:

The cardboard from the box might contain acids so if you want to make sure your paper will not be damaged by this you will want to gesso it first and next add a layer of black paint before adding the paper.
I use cardboard a lot in my work and never had any issues with it but if you want to be on the safe side it is just something you will want to do.

The glue I use is only available at Action, which is a dollar store kind of shop, they are not in all countries so the best comparishment for the glue I used is the Collal All purpose glue

All instuctions are in the video here:

here some more closer looks

thanks for visiting and your nice comments

Geisha

I have been wanting to try to paint a Geisha for a while now and thought I just try one in my big Dylusions Art Journal.

Deco Art Products Used:
Americana Arylics in: Colonial Green, True Red, Grey Sky, Moon Yellow, Asphaltum, Soft Heather, Wild Orchid, Spiced Pumpkin, Warm White, Lamp Black.
Americana Multi Surface in Lemon Zest.
Deco Art Media  U;tra matte varsnish and gesso
Dazzling Metallics in Medieval Gold

I made the background first, using stencils, rubber stamps and an old credit card, next I sketched the face sing a charcoal pencil.

I used gesso to create a white surface over the background so it would be easier to paint.

Next I used the charcoal pencil again to sketch the face and clothes back in

Then I started painting in the colors and the shades

next was the hair and eyes
Gave the eyes color and added details on her clothes.
Painted the quote trying to get a Japanese like script.

Finished by giving her eyeashes ad eye brows.

I always protect my painting with a layer of ultra matte varnish , even if they are in a journal.

USA flag AJ page

I was playing around with a Deco Art Stencil and this came out

Deco Art Products used:
Deco Art Americana acrylics in : True Red , Snow White, True Blue and Navy Blue
Deco Art Americana Gesso, Stencil American Tribute

I made this in my small Moleskine journal, it has very thin paper so first I glued 2 pages together and next added a layer of gesso.

The Flag of the stencil was exact the right size to fit on the spread and I started stenciling the red using a stencil brush.
Next I adde the blue and made the background around the flag blue too.
The stars are in the stencil and I used white for them, next I painted the white stripes.

The shades were made using a Faber Castel pitt brush pen in black.
