31 days of Halloween day 14

Welcome to day 14 of the 31 days of Halloween organized by Smeared and Smudged,
blogroll is in the side bar.
I am also a Cryptkeeper in the Halloween countdown 2013, for the complete list of 192 Cryptkeepers joining the countdown to Halloween, see link here

I have altered a frame this time, I found this in a shop and the glass was out, (still in one piece but not attached to the frame anymore) so I could have it for only 1 euro LOL, the original plan was to use the pens inside the frame for a future project, but changed plan and decided to paint the frame and use the Rick St. Dennis Poe digi on this.

the roses and the crosses are a tim holz die
there is some red and purple glitter glue on the roses

here you can see how big the cracks will be if you put a thick layer paint on

There were pieces missing on the frame so just had to make it look old

The orignal frame was dark brown, and some dents aside it was very smooth. So took out my Deco Arts Weathered Wood crackle medium and Metallic Lustres to play.

First painted the frame two layers of lamp black (Americana Acrylic paint) let dry between layers. when dry a layer of weathered wood let dry again. Then painted a sloppy layer of Berry Red (Americana Acrylic Paint). I wanted the black to shine through on some places of the frame, and by adding the red paint at some places thicker and thinner you get a different crackle structure aswell.

When the cracking was done and the paint was completly dry I protected the frame using matte varnish. When the varnish was dry I added the  black shimmer Metallic Lustre over the entire frame. Then took a baby whipe and started to remove the black shimmer but made sure to rubb it into all dents and crackles. As a finishing touch I put a little bit of Sparkling Silver Metallic Lustre here and there and this is the result

see you for day 15

Poe shadow box

I made a shadow box, painted an old box using crackle medium (first layer red, than crackle medium, then black and the top layer of the crackle medium, then wait till the cracks appear)

the Raven digi is coloured with distress ink and cut out and glued on top of the box.

The inside of the box is covered with glitter foam and patterned paper and red paper with raven and barbed wire rubber stamps on it.

The Digi's used are The Raven and Edgar Allen Poe all by Rick St Dennis MFA, both coloured with distress, Poe in yellow and red and the raven in blue.

I added some goodies and flowers and that's it

I will enter this in the Smudgy Antics challenge "tic tac toe 3 in a row" I used flowers,  metal (the heart and the pen) ribbon (there are ribbon roses in there), but I aslo used paint and cardboard (behind the tombstones and Poe is a layer of cardboard)

I will also enter the following challenges

POE-ETIC Bloghop

It's that time again! Time for the Smeared and Smudged member blog hop. (blogroll below this post)
The theme is POE-ETIC! Since we're celebrating the great Edgar Allan Poe this month,it would be awesome to create something using one of his poems! It can be a canvas, a card, a scrapbook page, an altered item, an art journal page, etc. Use your imaginations. Also, don't forget the S&S rule that is has to be stamped somewhere (digi stamps are fine) – we love when you use Smeared Ink stamps, but it is NOT a requirement to participate.

This is what I made:

I printed the Quoth the Raven poem twice, 1 for the background and 1 to cut the letters out  (my Cricut did that for me LOL). I added the Smeared Ink  digi's from Quoth the Raven setto the letters and used 3D foam tape to place the letters on the background. I made sure that the text is still readable. Here is a pic fro a different angle so you can see it better. It does look much better in real life.

Hope you will visit all the other bloggers and leave them some nice comments, you can find the blogroll here:
