smeared Ink Design Team Challenge # 6 Dance Macabre

yay time to enter the Design Team Throwdown challenge organised by Smeared Ink.

Although the challenge theme was ours cause we were the lucky winners (if you voted for us, thanks very much), it was still a bit hard to come up with something.

For this challenge I made a jewel box,  the kind of box that has a cute little ballet dancer on top that twirls arround and has a little music box inside. Of course the ballet dancer has a pink tutu  with glittery Jewels and a little crown on her head. and it will all be sweet and girlish.................


Uh......  well.... almost right.........................

There is a pink ballet dancer twirling around, there is a tutu, glitter and a little crown  , just take a closer look and you will see this totally fits the Dance Macabre theme.   Lot's of pics and some explaing further in this post.

The ballet dancer is a Rick St. Dennis Digi

the heart is clip art found on the net, printed 3 times, coloured, cut out  and covered with glossy accents then layered to get more dimension.

the mirror is made of alluminum foil and cardboard

there is some trim around the edges of the mirror and the drawers

the tutu is made of tulle, it was white and I used distress ink to make it pink

to age the mirror I crumpled the foil made it flat again and used alcohol ink

here a closer look of the side of the chest of drawers, it took a lot of layers and different colours of paint, crackle medium and sanding to make it look old.

I got some aging tips from Rick.

SNS DT throwdown challenge Tooth and Claw

Yay we are in again in this month SNS DT Throwdown  challenge,  the theme tooth and claw, has been chosen by the winner of the last challenge:

Quoth the Raven challenge blog, yay well done and big congrats to you.

For this challenge the Airless Chambers team is : Helen, Miranda and me (Monique), we had to do a bit of thinking for this one, but we all came up with something, Rick provided us with the images needed and we were ready to go.

here is my project,which turned out a lot bigger and much more work than I had planned,  it's an Alice in Wonderland themed  curiousity cabinet,  with a bite (LOL)

let's start with some pics and then i will tell you how i made it.

this is the outside

and here is the bloody inside

I started out with two of these (plain wooden tea boxes)

I changed the size of the inside boxes cause  I didn't want them all to be the same size, and then painted and aged it using this

when the  painting was done i added the hinges (TH die) and the lock plate (7 gypsies) the doorknobs are made of buttons, there are 5 buttons ( 1 jeans button and the others are normal buttons) on each doorknob is a rhinestone that way the holes of the buttons aren't visible

then i had to create an Alice scene in the inside of both doors

for door 1 I asked Rick if he could draw me an alice with a butcher knife in one hand and the mad hatters head in the other hand.  He did wonder how this was going to fit the theme but faster then the speed of light I got the image I asked for. The doodles in the background are drawn by me, if you like them, you can get yours here  :-)

door 2, has the cheshire monster cat and the zombie rabbit and a head that belonged to another RSD image (it was allready chopped of a body, I didn't do that lol) and there is also the cheshire tree (TH Die), and a drink me bottle (with lizzard).

then i had to fill all the little boxes inside

first there are the eat me shrooms, cute hey?

then the twinkle twinkle little bat (sorry for the bat pic LOL)

some chess pieces

a blood white rabbit (and they eat heads, not carrots LOL)

the cards, that painted the roses red (poor things they lost their heads, o well more bunny food)

and i can't help wondering is it paint or is it blood??  I guess we'll never know,it's  hard to speak without your head

some keys and the King and the Queen of Hearts, O,  and  also some teeth ...

A tea party , without the hatter I'm afraid, poor guy lost his head (and you all thought Alice was such a sweet little girl, you were wrong ....)

(btw i added the card symbols to a the tiny tea set using permanent markers, it's a bit hard to draw on the round surface, but it worked

In the last little boxes , the pocket watch and a tart, what's a tea party without a tart?

and in the last 2  boxes, the pig and the rest of the cards

Design Team Throwdown challenge # 1

This is my entry for the first Design Team Throwdown challenge by Smeared Ink, you can read all about the rules here

in the DT throwdown Design Teams will be pitted against each other in a biweekly challenge to make projects that will inspire. They will strive to win the majority vote of forum members.

the first challenge theme is Paint and Splatter, and I am in the Rick St. Dennis team togehter with Miranda and of course Rick,  he thought of drawing us special painter Zombies, how cool is that?

Anyway, we decided that each of us would make an Art Journal page, using the same papersize and color scheme, and we would try to make 1 project out of the 3 separate pieces. It was so much fun creating this project together but all in our own little corner of the world, having to deal with time zones (and different languages).

This is what I made:

 

 

 

 

 

I colored the zombie using pencils and made the background using stamps for the bricks, used distress ink to color the bricks red, then painted the rest of the paper grey using acrylic paint (used black and white to make the grey for the background and added some more black for the MB letters behind the zombie)

Drew some cracks around he bricks using a black marker and then did the splattering in red, white and black paint and some red paint dripping in the left corner.

The letters MB where painted using a template Rick made for us, had that printed and cut out the letters to make a mask and dabbed the paint in.

 

 

now it is time to reveal the three projects together

 

worked out great hey?? Miranda and I both scanned our project and e mailed it to Rick, and he put our projects and his together in Photoshop, made some digital changes to make it one piece and I think it looks awesome.
