SNS Throwdown challenge #2 Faux Finish and Rock n Rolla challenge

Ok here we go, probably a long post with lots a pics so i will start with getting the linking buisines out of the way.The TrowDown is an Smeared and smudged event, see rules here. The challenge theme is made up by last challenge winners HDH, big congrats to you all and  you'v come up with a great theme I love everything Faux.

The Rick St. Dennis team are again Miranda, me and of course Rick, the post is linked from his blog you can find all the teams projects (and the digi sets) there.

I used Rick St. Dennis digi's check out his blog the set is only available there.
The Bone bunny is from Smeared Ink (I cut of his ears btw, but made sure it was dead first)

Rock n rolla challenge post is at the end of this one

Now we can start with the fun part, PICS,  I made a poison bottle and a tag will tell you below the pics how i did it

This was a glass bottle, there used to be olive oil in it
first I embossed cardstock and glued it on the sides of the bottle
then covered with aluminum tape, and made sure the embossed pattern showed, very carefully to not tear up the tape.
Covered the tape with black arcrilyc paint, let dry for a bit and wipe off again.
Next layer paint is bronze acrilyc paint, let dry and wipe till you got the look you want.
Now it looked rusty, which was cool but i wanted a more copper look, so added some spots of blue and green acrilyc paint, which could stay on there for a change.
Now that was the messy part. Could start decorating now
This side of the bottle has beads on it spelling the word "poison" the are coverd with alohol ink and attached with a leather shoe lace.
The Skull and bones, and roses are Rick St. Dennis digi's, the skull is layered to make a 3d  faux porcelain look. (6 layers of skull covered with crackle glossy accents and distress ink walnut stain)

Every poison bottle needs a spoon, how else would you know the right amount to take LOL, this was a stainless steel spoon, but it needed to be old (does faux old count lol) so used acohol ink (caramel and green) and sealed with glossy accents. Added ribbon, silk flowers and a faux Ruby (just a plastic bead but hey, you wanted faux stuff). The skully was a necklace and undereath are beads.
The other side of the bottle has an embossed skellie and a framed Smeared Ink digi, wanted to make it look like an old photograph ( is that also Faux?)
The pentagram (which is of course up side down) I made out of wire, bit of a puzzle but it came out ok

the last side has a dragon on it (this was also a necklace) used alcohol ink on it and attached with a chain, the bottle has glitter glue in it but is supposed to be faux blood (faux dragon blood if you want)

some close ups

The stopper isn't a stopper (hey faux again) it's a lightbulb, painted in same colours as the bottle and sealed with glossy accents. The decoration on the stopper are 2 buttons glued together and a plastic skull which i also painted in the bottle colours.
Final touch, a leather shoe lace and another skull charm (with faux diamonds, it's glass sssshhh don't tell)
Kind a cool you can make this using all kinds of stuff that was allready in my stash, never throw away anything cause you don't know when you will need it, LOL

Now the other project is a tag

Same procedure but hand embossed the dots using ruler and embossing pen, did the paint thing again (rusty look this time) and made the embellishment from charms and bat wings stamps (used copper embossing powder on them and the wings are also faux metal)
The Rick St. Dennis skull and bones is available on Rick's blog and the Dead Dancer Falling is a Smeared Ink digi, she is attached to the skull with strings.
The senti on the skulled heart says : dance with death.

that's it, don't forget to check out my teamies projects and to vote.
================================================================

this is a tag I made for the Smeared Ink Rock n Rolla challenge,
the skull and hand digi are Rick St. Dennis images and the dead dancer pointing is a Smeared Ink digi, the rubber in the background is from the stempelwinkel

the dead dancer is attached with strings again to the hand

Easter flower bucket

A fun and easy project , nice to make together with the kids. All digi's used are Rick St. Dennis MFA you can find them in his Etsy.

I printed the digi's coloured them and cut them out, glued the bunnies to the bucket.

I used my Cricut to cut out paper flowers and a heart, but you can use any die cut machine, or punches for this (or even hand cut).  I glued the flowers to wooden sticks (that I painted green first), and added some green ribbon for leaves.
Stick them into floral foam and  cover with the yellow Easter decoration straw.

Alice in Wonderland Domino book

I think you know by now that I am an AIW fan and I also love to make domino books. So I just have to share some great news for all of you Alice and domino fans in blogland.

If you love to alter game pieces you should visit Leigh's DominoArt, There is a lot of gorgeous inspiration there and there are also challenges.

The challenge running now is all about domino books ( you can still enter this one, see details here),using Rick St. Dennis Easter/Valentine domino kit which is available in Ricks shop for a limited time, and the best part is it is only $ 3.50.

For Those of you who have never tried or need some help there is a tutorial here. Trust me on this, these books are super easy, it's just a bit of  coloring, folding and glueing anyone can do this.

Now the greatest part of the news :-), DominoArt blog has its annual celebration in April, and because Rick and Leigh both are Alice fans too. Leigh decided to have a special Alice dominobook challenge which starts March 29th, and Rick made special images for that challenge, but there is more the prizes will be Rick St. Dennis Alice in Wonderland digi's, how awesome it that!!!

But I think you want to see the domino book I made now, I used the Alice in Wonderland  domino kit for it, specially made for this challenge by Rick, and it's so very cool, all characters are there, one side is "Wonderland" and the other side is " the Looking Glass" it is only available for a limited time and you can find it here

here is the domino book I made:

I had so much fun coloring the image, Rick really has done a wonderful job drawing these, cause there are so many details and the images are so very small. But I think Rick can draw anything, just check out all the different kinds of images in his etsy, where you can find anything from cute to creepy, and from vintage to fabulous and of course lots of wonderland images.

Coloring was a bit of a challenge so I sharpened my pencils and started. The book is made the same way as the book in the tutorial, but for this one I wanted a more vintage/old look. The images on the domino's were covered with Crackle Glossy Accents, when the crackle had dried I inked it using walnut stain disstress ink, used a make up sponge to rub it on and be sure to rub it inside the cracks, that way the cracks will be more visable and it makes the crackle look real old.
After the inside of the book was colored and folded I used distress ink to ink all the edges and also inked around all images. The final touch are the rhinestones on both domino's.

If you need some more  gorgeous domino book ispiration check out these made by : Black Dragon,  , Vee Cassidy , Charlotte , Pat Crook and of course Leigh

Now i can;t wait to see the domino books you are going to enter in the Dominoart challenge, remember the Alice in wonderland challenge starts March 29th,
 have fun

Jack the giant killer

I made this tag to enter the Haunted Design House challenge  Drop dead gorgeous,

Now I have to warn you this guy is not that gorgeous, as a matter a fact I call this image "ugly almost naked guy" (cause he is all hairy and yucky, sorry Rick), But I made a gorgeous tag (well I think so lol), and if you see this scary guy you might drop dead so all together it fits the theme perfectly LOL

so I have warned you, it can be deadly to take a look at my tag

here it is

I used the Jack the Giant Killer  by Rick St Dennis the background is broken china distress ink and the roses are clear stamps( by Viva Decor, my Paper World Clear stamps), I coloured the digi using pencils , the roses are coloured using Letraset Aquamarkers, then i used walnut stain distress to blend the colours a bit and make it look a bit like an old fairy tale book illustration.

Design Team Throwdown challenge # 1

This is my entry for the first Design Team Throwdown challenge by Smeared Ink, you can read all about the rules here

in the DT throwdown Design Teams will be pitted against each other in a biweekly challenge to make projects that will inspire. They will strive to win the majority vote of forum members.

the first challenge theme is Paint and Splatter, and I am in the Rick St. Dennis team togehter with Miranda and of course Rick,  he thought of drawing us special painter Zombies, how cool is that?

Anyway, we decided that each of us would make an Art Journal page, using the same papersize and color scheme, and we would try to make 1 project out of the 3 separate pieces. It was so much fun creating this project together but all in our own little corner of the world, having to deal with time zones (and different languages).

This is what I made:

I colored the zombie using pencils and made the background using stamps for the bricks, used distress ink to color the bricks red, then painted the rest of the paper grey using acrylic paint (used black and white to make the grey for the background and added some more black for the MB letters behind the zombie)
Drew some cracks around he bricks using a black marker and then did the splattering in red, white and black paint and some red paint dripping in the left corner.
The letters MB where painted using a template Rick made for us, had that printed and cut out the letters to make a mask and dabbed the paint in.

now it is time to reveal the three projects together

worked out great hey?? Miranda and I both scanned our project and e mailed it to Rick, and he put our projects and his together in Photoshop, made some digital changes to make it one piece and I think it looks awesome.

Now if you like one of our pieces please come to the Smeared Ink Forum to vote, who ever gets the most votes is the winner.........

Thanks for voting on our pieces ;-)

You can find the zombie images in Rick's etsy:
