Steampunk canvas using RSD Insane Hatter
Hi all, I've been working on a canvas using the Rick St. Dennis Insane Hatter, and turned it into a Steampunk canvas using all kinds of metal pieces, DecoArt products and some Tim Holtz dies.
Supply List:Digi stamp" Insane Hatter" by Rick St. Dennis MFA
DecoArts products:
Americana Acrylic paint Lamp black
Americana Acrylic Gesso
Dazzling metallic paints : copper and emperors gold
Glamour dust fine glitter paint; Sizzling red
Americana Weathered wood crackle medium
Texture Crackle (neutral)
Metallic Lustres: Iced Espresso, Copper Kettle and Black Shimmer
Tim Holtz Alterations : Hardware Findings and Gadget Gears
Rubber stamps Steampunk plate 1 + 41 by Kicostamps
Clearstamps by Chronology
Embellishments:
Plastic frame, the small light bulbs, the spring and the bolts and rings came from dear husbands garage ;-) but he probably bought them in a hardware store :-)
There are some foam roses and a small playing card, letter beads some hat pins and and old key and wooden spool with some brown thread. The iron flowers are home decorations and the big gears are plastic parts from an empty tape runner that I took apart.
The small gears on the Hatters hat are old watch parts
how to:
The Mad Hatter is a Rick St.dennis MFA digi stamp to be found here: http://www.zibbet.com/Rick1949/artwork?artworkId=2153906. The digi is coloured using Caran d'ache Luminance 6901 pencils and then cut out.
The canvas was prepared using the Gesso, then a layer of emperors gold paint. The weathered wood was applied and the top layer is lamp black.
When the crackling was done and dry the frame was made using texture crackle, applied using a pallet knife, when that was dry it was painted lamp black.
The gear rubberstamps and clearstamps are stamped using copper acrylic paint. The copper paint was also used to add the metallic aged look to the crackle frame.
All embellishments were given an old worn look using the metallic lustres, the foam roses were allready red but I gave them a layer of sizzling red glitter paint to give them some shine
some detail pics
The cool thing is that this canvas will be published in Just Steampunk Magazine Volume 5, I asked if it was ok to put it on my blog before the magazine is in the shops, and as long as I mentioned it would be published it's allowed :-)
I will enter the following challenges

bloody valentine
Hi all, this is my piece for the bloody valentine hop on the Airless Chambers blog, I made an Art Journal page using a Rick St. Dennis digi called Vampyr Masquerade 2. I coloured the vampire using Derwent colour soft pencils. The background is a gelli print.
To make the gelli print I used DecoArt Americana Acrylics (Tomato Red, Winter Blue, Ocean Blue, Purple Pizzazz, Lemon Yellow) The letters are made using my Cricut to cut out a Vampire font. I traced the letters and painted them using Americana Acrylics Cherry Red (thought that was the best colour to look like blood lol), also used that for the little blood dripping from the Vampyrs mouth
I will enter this in the following challenges

Macabre Monday # 182 Frightening Fairies
Hi all, time for a new challenge at Haunted Design House, theme is Frightening Fairies.....
Had to think a bit what to make of that, but thought to try the aging a book using tissue paper thing. I've seen it around on the internet and it's a pretty easy way to age a book, messy but easy.
Now what I have done is not that original, I saw simular things by people using the tissue paper technique, but it was on my "to try list" so I thought to give it a go and make a Fairy Book.
supply list:
DECOART products:
Americana Acrylic Gesso, Americana Decoupage, Dura Clear Matte Varnish.
Metallic Lustres : Champagne Ice, Blackshimmer, Iced Espresso
Elegant finish Metallic Glaze: One world Patina and Renaissance brown
Americana Acrylics : Lamp black
A hard cover notebook, a plastic skellie, tissue paper, cardstock , Tim Holtz die Wings
First add a layer of decoupage on the cover of the book, crumple the tissue paper and add it to the book, while doing that add more decoupage using an old paintbrush. Let dry, and do all sides of the book, fold over the edges and glue the overlapping pieces the same way, careful not to glue the pages together.
Apply Gesso when decoupage is dry. Cut the wings. When gesso is dry, paint the book black.
After the black paint is dry glue the wings and the skellie on, use decoupage for the wings. For the skellie I use glue that is suitable for plastic. Let dry. Add Matte varnish over the entire front of the book, also over the wings and the skellie.
Paint the skellie and the wings black when varnish is dry. Let things dry for a while and add the lustres to the bookcovers. The Skellie was painted with the Elegant finishes and the were also put on the cover, and whiped away again using a baby whipe to get the effect I wanted
go over the HDH to see what the other minions created, and join the challenge. Have fun

Happy Heart day
Today the new challenge starts over at Sparkle and Glitter, the only rule is to use the Rick St.dennis February monthly image, which is ofcourse Valentine themed :-)
This little cute chap is called Happy Heart Day and you can fnd him here, the good news is that he is free if you buy an image in Rick's shop till February 15th.
Happy Heart Day is coloured using Derwent Colour Soft pencils
I made an art journal page using a gelli print and DecoArt Americana Acrylics, colours used: Lemon Yellow, Red Alert, Purple pizzazz, spiced pumpkin.
The letters are stamped using Making Memories Valentine foamstamps and Americana Acrylics, colours used : Lamp Black and Cherry Red
if you go to Sparkle and Glitter you can see all the different coloured images using Happy Heart Day by the rest of the Elite Design Team.
I also have some coloured mages to show you,
Rick drew an amazing Mad Wonderland set of images, Alice, the Tweedles, Queen of Hearts, March Hare, The White Queen, The Duches and of course the Hatter, and they are all slightly mad.....
so far I only had the chance to colour the hatter (I used Caran dáche Luminance 6901 pencils for the hatter), here he is
the other images I got coloured are Etoile (Caran dáche luminance pencils used but not completly finished) and Glinda the Good (Derwent colour soft)
I will enter the valentine aj page in the following challenges
